After dispatching the letter, you must wait for a minimum of 3 weeks before initiating any legal action since your compensation payment may be in the way. If the airlines offer you a coupon towards compensation or deny the admissibility of your claim citing “extraordinary circumstances,” or do not respond. In that case, you should seek appropriate legal help.
It is recommended that your lawyer or counsel has adequate expertise in EU air passenger rights.
The US or citizens outside of the EU should note that the court where your case would be heard shall obviously not be your hometown, and you shall bear the cost of traveling for your lawyer or yourself.
While the personal presence of the passenger making a compensation claim is not ordinarily required during the proceedings, in some cases, it might be necessary.
